Mostra Arcimboldo Roma

From 20 October 2017 to 11 February 2018 in Rome, at Palazzo Barberini will take place the exhibition Arcimboldo, organized by the National Galleries of Ancient Art of Rome and MondoMostreSkira, curated by Sylvia Ferino Pagden, one of the most important scholars of Arcimboldo and former Director of Painting at the Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna.

For the first time in Rome we will have the unique opportunity, for the difficulty of obtaining loans that justify the rarity of exhibitions dedicated to this artist, to see some great autograph masterpieces by Giuseppe Arcimboldi, known as Arcimboldo.

The exhibition display his most famous masterpieces - from Seasons to Elements, from The Librarian to The Jurists, from Priapo (Ortolano) to The Chef - portraits, his precious watercolored drawings of rides and fountains, in dialogue with paintings and the arcimoldesche copies, in addition to a series of objects from the famous imperial wunderkammer, the numismatic shops and applied art of Milan and not only, to drawings of herbs, fruit, animals, of which at the time were made a deep study with the aim to increase greenhouses, locks and gardens, but also and above the scientific knowledge.
